Klang Valley MRT2 groundbreaking
MALAYSIA: Prime Minister Najib Razak led the groundbreaking ceremony for Klang Valley Line 2 on September 15 near Putrajaya Sentral at the southern end of the future route.
The 52·2 km line, also known as the SSP Line, will link Sungai Buloh, Serdang and Putrajaya with 26 above-ground and 11 underground stations. An MMC-Gamuda joint venture is acting as lead contractor.
A consortium of Hyundai Rotem, POSCO Engineering and Apex Communications is supplying 58 four-car driverless trainsets and depot equipment under a 1·62bn ringgit contract. A consortium of Bombardier and Global Rail is supplying signalling and train control.
The first phase, between Sungai Buloh and Kampung Batu, is due to open in mid-2021, with the rest of the line following about a year later. Ridership on the completed line is expected to be 529 000 passengers/day.
